Patient Participation

The practice is keen to involve patients in sharing their ideas about how it could improve services provided at the practice. You are very welcome to join patient participation group meetings. The information on this page will explain functions and activities undertaken by the group.

Patient Participation Group (PPG)

The members of the group voluntarily give their time representatives of the practice team for regular meetings. They help organise events at the practice and also spend time in the practice meeting with patients visiting the practice to seek their views about topical issues related to health or provision of services at the practice. The practice is indebted to their time and active participation.

Patient Survey

The members of group conducted a major survey in June & Dec 2012. Please click here to see the results. 
Please contact reception staff if you would like to attend group’s meetings or contribute to organisation of events held at the practice.

Functions of the Group

• To give practice staff and patients the opportunity to discuss topics of mutual interest in their Practice.
• To provide means for patients to make positive suggestions about the practice and specific medical conditions as an ‘expert’ or experienced patient’.
• To encourage health education activities within the practice.
• To develop self-help projects to meet the needs of fellow patients, such as befriending, help with transport, and bereavement support. 
• To act as a representative group that can be called upon to influence the local provision of health and social care.
• To involve further patients from the wider population.

Meetings

The group meets every 2-3 months. The group meets more frequently if there are plans to run patient education evenings or events to encourage participation by majority of patients.

General Guiding Principles of patient participation group (agreed by the group)

1. It is a non-political group.
2. The group acts on behalf of practice population in general. 
3. Individual issues / issues related to minority of patients may not be addressed by the group 
4. The group identifies / proposes potential new services.
5. The group gives advice on the proposed plans for change in services. 
6. Offer support for the initiatives and new services provided by the practice.
7. The group does not undertake investigations on behalf of patients nor deals with confidential and individual patient’s issues.
8. The group is not be part of partnership or management of the practice.
